OnePlus has just announced that it is going to launch its brand-new OnePlus Nord 5 mid-range smartphone on 8 July 2025, and will also show some more shiny gadgets.
Because the last phone of the Nord series, OnePlus Nord 4, was a full metal awesome phone, and now there are great expectations from Nord 5 as well. So let’s quickly explore all the things about it and see what’s new in it!
OnePlus Nord 5:
The company has not revealed much about OnePlus Nord 5 yet, but with the help of leaks and rumors we can make a good picture. And yes, OnePlus has also confirmed a few things, so let’s see everything one by one!
1. Design:
First talk about design. The metal unibody design of Nord 4 was very premium, but unfortunately, OnePlus has left metal in Nord 5. Yes, now this phone will come with glass back and plastic frame. In an interview with TechRadar, OnePlus Europe CMO said that users like the “simple and elegant” design more, so this was changed.
It is a little disappointing, but the glass back can also give a premium feel, and may be lightweight too. Colors include Dry Ice (light blue), Marble Sands, and Phantom Grey. Which color do you like? Do tell us in the comments!
2. Display:
According to rumors, it will have a 6.83-inch flat OLED display, which will come with 1.5K resolution and 144Hz refresh rate.
Now this is for gamers to know! 144Hz means buttery smooth scrolling and lag-free gaming, whether playing Call of Duty: Mobile or Genshin Impact.
The 6.74-inch 120Hz OLED of Nord 4 was also quite good, but this upgrade of Nord 5 is absolutely next-level. Plus, there will also be an in-display fingerprint sensor, which should be fast and accurate.
3. Performance:
Now talking about performance. OnePlus has confirmed that Nord 5 will have Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset. This is not the latest Gen 4, which will come in any flagship, but still this chip is quite powerful. There are chances of getting LPDDR5X RAM (8GB or 12GB) and 256GB/512GB storage options with it.
Daily tasks, multitasking, or heavy gaming – this phone will run very smoothly in everything. OnePlus has also said that it will have Cryo-Velocity VC cooling system, which gives a heat dissipation area of 7,300mm². Meaning, the phone will not get hot while gaming!
4. Battery:
Nord 5 can give a big surprise in terms of battery life. Nord 4 had a 5,500mAh battery, which was quite good, but according to leaks, Nord 5 can get a massive battery of 6,700mAh to 7,000mAh!
And there will also be 80W or 100W fast charging, which will charge the phone from 0 to 100% in minutes. Now that’s a different thing – this phone is tougher than even John McClane!
5. Camera:
Nord 5 will probably be a little conservative in the camera department. According to the leaks, it will have a dual rear camera setup:
- 50MP main sensor (with OIS)
- 8MP ultra-wide lens
And 16MP or 50MP selfie camera can be found in the front. The camera of Nord 4 was also good, but there was a little problem in low-light. There may be some improvement in Nord 5, but if you are expecting a telephoto lens like Nothing Phone 3a, then there may be a little disappointment. Still, this setup is enough for daylight shots and stable videos.
6. Extra Features:
- IP65 rating: Some water and dust resistance, which is now becoming common in mid-range phones.
- Dual stereo speakers: Booming sound quality, which is perfect for movies and music.
- Android 15 with OxygenOS 15: Latest software out-of-the-box, which gives a fast and clean experience.
- Plus Key: OnePlus’s iconic Alert Slider will no longer be there. In its place, a Plus Key will be available, which will be customizable (like the iPhone’s Action Button). You can set this for shortcuts as per your convenience.
Price and Availability
Now talking about the price. The starting price of Nord 5 is expected to be between Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 35,999 in India. Base variant (8GB RAM + 128GB storage) may be Rs. 30,000, and the higher-end (12GB RAM + 256GB storage) can go up to Rs. 39,999.
This phone will be launched in India, UK, and Europe, but will probably not come to the US, as OnePlus skips its mid-range phones there.
If you follow the latest tech updates on Instagram, you can also keep an eye on the official handle of OnePlus, where you can get teasers before the launch.
What else will be launched along with OnePlus Nord 5?
In the event of 8 July, OnePlus will launch not only Nord 5, but also other amazing products:
- OnePlus Nord CE 5: Another budget-friendly mid-range phone that will come with Dimensity 8350 chipset and 7,100mAh battery.
- OnePlus Buds 4: Premium earbuds with dual drivers and Hi-Res audio.
- OnePlus Pad Lite: Budget tablet for entertainment.
- OnePlus Watch 3 (43mm): Smaller size smartwatch.
Is it for you?
Now the question is – is OnePlus Nord 5 the perfect phone for you? If you want a mid-range phone that offers flagship-level performance, big battery, and smooth display, then Nord 5 can be a solid choice. Yes, the lack of metal design and Alert Slider can be a bit of a problem, but the Plus Key, 144Hz display, and massive battery make up for it.
If you are a gaming enthusiast or want a phone that can last for 2 days, then take a look at the Nord 5. And if the budget is a bit tight, then the Nord CE 5 is also a good option.
