Samsung’s Quantum Dot Display technology is now even more special as it has earned SGS certification! Now you must be wondering, what is this SGS certification and what is so special about Quantum Dot Display? Let’s understand in simple terms.
How did Samsung earn this certification?
Samsung Electronics has announced that the quantum dot sheet used in its Quantum Dot (QD) TVs has been declared cadmium-free by SGS. SGS, full name “Société Générale de Surveillance,” is a global testing and certification body based in Switzerland. It certifies different industries around the world to maintain quality and safety standards, such as electronics, food and environment.
SGS has confirmed that Samsung’s quantum dot film contains no cadmium and is fully compliant with RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) standards. RoHS is a European Union directive that emphasizes reducing the use of hazardous substances in electronics.
What does cadmium-free mean?
Now the question arises, what difference does being cadmium-free make? Cadmium is a very toxic substance that is harmful to both the environment and health. Because of this, since Samsung developed the world’s first no-cadmium quantum dot material in 2014, this technology has become quite safe and eco-friendly.
