Redmi Pad 2
Redmi Pad 2

Here we are going to talk about a tablet that is making a place in the budget segment tabs in 2025 – Redmi Pad 2! This tablet comes in both Wi-Fi and Cellular variants, and its pricing? I will just say this much, it is difficult to get so much under ₹ 15,000! So let’s start with unboxing and see what all is there in it that makes it a value-for-money deal.

Unboxing: What All Is There in the Box?

The design of the box looks sleek and premium, exactly what you expect from Xiaomi. Let’s take a look inside the box:

  • Redmi Pad 2: This is the hero of the show! We have the Sky Blue color variant, which looks extremely vibrant and stylish.
  • 15W Charger: Yes, there is a charger in the box as well (thanks Xiaomi!), but the tablet supports 18W fast charging, so it felt a little lacking.
  • Type-A to Type-C Cable: For charging and data transfer.
  • User Manual: Quick guide which probably no one will read, but if it is there then it is correct!
  • SIM Ejector Tool: For the Cellular variant.

Now let’s talk about the accessories, which have to be bought separately:

  • Redmi Smart Pen: Roughly priced at ₹4,500, which is great for note-taking and sketching.
  • Redmi Pad 2 Cover: Its price is around ₹1,299, and it gives a stylish look to the tablet along with protection.

Pro Tip: If you are buying a cover, then check whether there is a holder for the pen or not, as carrying a pen separately is a bit troublesome.

Build and Design: Premium Feel Under Budget?

The build of Redmi Pad 2 is absolutely solid! The combination of Aluminum and polycarbonate makes it lightweight (510 grams) and durable. This tablet is 7.36mm slim, which makes it pocket-friendly and easy-to-carry. Apart from Sky Blue color, it also comes in Graphite Gray and Mint Green.

What’s more, 3.5mm headphone jack is also available in 2025! This is a bonus for music lovers. The cellular variant has a hybrid SIM slot, where you can use dual SIM or one SIM + microSD card (up to 2TB). In terms of build quality, this tablet is top-notch in its price range!

Display: Multimedia is a delight!

Friends, the 11-inch 2.5K LCD display of Redmi Pad 2 makes one happy! This display comes with a 2560×1600 resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate that delivers smooth scrolling and animations. Colours are vibrant and the Widevine L1 certification lets you enjoy HD content on Netflix.

Talking about brightness, it goes up to 600 nits, which is perfect for indoors. Outdoors the visibility is decent but can struggle in a little sunlight. Unfortunately, HDR is not supported on Netflix and YouTube, and only 2K at 60fps content will be played on YouTube. Still, this display is awesome for movies and web series!

Fun Fact: The display also has wet touch technology, meaning it will work even with a slightly wet finger. It will be useful in monsoon!

Performance: Boss of gaming and multitasking!

Redmi Pad 2 has MediaTek Helio G100 Ultra processor, which is based on 6nm architecture. We have a variant with 8GB LPDDR4X RAM + 256GB UFS 2.2 storage, and it gives read/write speeds up to ~1Gbps. AnTuTu score? 420,000+!

How is this tablet for gaming? I tried BGMI and Call of Duty Mobile:

  • BGMI: Runs up to 40fps on Smooth + Ultra settings, no lag.
  • COD Mobile: Also gives a smooth experience at 40fps.

83% max performance was stable in the CPU throttling test, which is impressive at this price. HyperOS 2.0 (Android 15 based) is quite smooth for multitasking. I ran YouTube in one window and Chrome in the other – no lag! Added two floating windows as well, and everything ran buttery smooth.

Gamer Tip: If you do casual gaming, this tablet is perfect, but there is no 60fps option for heavy games.

Software: HyperOS 2.0

The Redmi Pad 2 comes with out-of-the-box HyperOS 2.0, which is based on Android 15. This OS is clean and bloatware-free, which makes the tablet super smooth. Multitasking features like split-screen and floating windows are quite useful, especially for students and professionals.

A cool feature is Circle to Search by Google, which lets you select and search anything on the screen. And yes, there is also Gemini AI integration, which boosts productivity. Call recording is also there (in cellular variant), and the other person will not even know!

Note: Xiaomi has a good track record in terms of software updates, so you can expect that this tablet will remain updated for 2-3 years.

Redmi Smart Pen: Is it worth ₹4,500?

Redmi Pad 2 supports Redmi Smart Pen, which has to be purchased separately for ₹4,500. Unboxing the pen is also an experience – you get pen, extra tip, and user manual in the box. What are the features?

  • Two Buttons: Long-press one button to take a screenshot (normal, area selection, or circular). Long-press the second button to directly open the Notes app.
  • Low Latency: No problem while writing or sketching. Palm rejection is also top-notch, meaning no issue while writing with the hand.
  • Battery: 240mAh battery, with Type-C charging.

I tried a few images for sketching and the result was absolutely clean. But the question is – will you buy this pen at this price? Do tell us in the comments!

Downside: There is no holder for the pen, nor is there any slot in the cover. You will have to carry it separately, which is a bit inconvenient.

Audio: Quad Speakers

Redmi Pad 2 has quad speakers which come with Dolby Atmos and Hi-Res Audio support. The sound quality is quite impressive for this price. Bass is a bit low, but the mids and highs are clear. These speakers are excellent for movies and music. And the 3.5mm jack is a bonus!

Battery and Connectivity: All-Day Power!

The tablet has a 9,000mAh battery, which easily lasts for 1.5-2 days in normal usage (movies, browsing, gaming). It has 18W fast charging support, but only a 15W charger is provided in the box. It takes ~2.5 hours to fully charge.

Connectivity options:

  • Wi-Fi 5: Stable and fast.
  • Bluetooth 5.3: Seamless audio and file transfer.
  • Dual 4G SIM: Solid 4G speed on both Jio and Airtel.
  • USB Type-C: For charging and data transfer.

Call quality is good in the cellular variant and the mic is also clear for video conferencing.

Camera: Decent, but how much will you use it?

The Redmi Pad 2 has an 8MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera, both with 1080p at 30fps video recording. The dynamic range from the rear camera is decent in outdoor shots, but struggles in low-light. The front camera is good enough for video calls and selfies, and the wide-angle lens is perfect for group calls.

Reality Check: The camera on a tablet is secondary, so if you use the phone for photography, this camera is just for backup.

Pricing and Variants: Value for Money?

Redmi Pad 2 India prices are as follows (launch offer with ₹1,000 discount on HDFC cards):

Wi-Fi Only:

  • 4GB + 128GB: ₹13,999

Wi-Fi + Cellular:

  • 6GB + 128GB: ₹15,999
  • 8GB + 256GB: ₹17,999

This tablet is available on Amazon, Flipkart, Xiaomi’s official website, and select offline stores from 24 June. This price includes 2.5K display, 9,000mAh battery, and stylus support, which is a steal deal!

Question for You: With this pricing, how much value-for-money does this tablet seem to be? Share your opinion in the comments!

Who should buy this tablet?

Redmi Pad 2 is perfect for:

  • Students: For online classes, note-taking (with Smart Pen), and multitasking.
  • Entertainment Lovers: Big display and Dolby Atmos speakers for movies, web series, and casual gaming.
  • Budget Buyers: If you want premium features under ₹15,000 then this is the best.

If you are looking for a tablet for heavy gaming or professional video editing, then you can look at these options in a slightly higher budget.

Final Thoughts

Redmi Pad 2 is an all-rounder budget tablet which leaves no stone unturned in design, display, performance, and battery. Features like Smart Pen and Cellular support make it even more attractive. The only drawback is the lack of HDR support and the lack of a holder for the pen, but getting so much at this price? Wow, Xiaomi!
